Key performance indicators
Surveys carried out as part of the Care Quality Commission's national NHS patient survey programme include questions on most aspects of patients' experience:
- access and waiting times
- choice of provider
- confidence and trust in health professionals
- hygiene, cleanliness and hand-washing
- food and physical environment
- being treated with dignity and respect
- information and communication
- availability of staff when needed
- involvement in treatment decisions
- access to records and medical communications
- overall satisfaction.
Findings from the surveys can be found on the Commission's website.
More information on the surveys and questions is available here.
Primary care
The Department of Health's General Practice Patient Survey includes questions on many aspects of primary care patients' experience, although it is strongly focused on access and has limited questions on experience of the consultation.
Results from the survey are available here.
